Daniels health care team says answers pending

INDIANAPOLIS - Gov. Mitch Daniels' team of federal health care overhaul leaders are telling Indiana lawmakers that firm answers on the sweeping new law aren't available.

Daniels has said the biggest issues to be decided by the next governor are whether Indiana should expand Medicaid and whether to establish its own health insurance exchange.

State consultant Seema Verma told lawmakers Wednesday that those questions are complicated by a lack of information from the Obama administration.

The state has until Sept. 30 to say which benefits would be covered in a state exchange and until Nov. 16 to decide whether to run an exchange. Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence has only said he opposes the federal health care law. Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham both want a "hybrid" exchange.
