Officials at Brownsburg High School in Brownsburg, Ind., put the building on lockdown Monday after a student falsely reported being attacked.
An article published by WTHR reported school security cameras recorded the student entering the restroom and then falling to the floor after he came out, 17 minutes later.
The student had reported someone stabbed him, but Brownsburg police spokeswoman Jennifer Barrett told The Associated Press the videotape showed no one else entering the bathroom at the time.
Jim Snapp, Brownsburg Schools superintendent, told WTHR the video is conclusive that the situation did not happen the way the student reported.
Brownsburg Community Schools Corp. spokeswoman Donna Petraits told the AP the district may pursue charges for falsifying a report.
Paramedics took the student to IU Health Methodist Hospital for treatment. Police told Eyewitness News they interviewed the student while there and believe the injuries were self-inflicted.
The lockdown lasted for about two hours.
