The Muncie City Council approved a rezoning ordinance on Monday that will allow Brinshore Development, a company located in Northbrook, Ill., to begin plans to construct an 80-unit apartment complex near the Village.
The apartment complex will target Ball State and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital employees who qualify to live in low- to moderate-income housing.
Brinshore will not be able to rent out to college students for at least 30 years because of the low-income housing tax credits it will receive.
The council voted 7-1 on the ordinance with council member Brad Polk being the only opposing vote.
