The awards were bound to come in bunches. With a team that led so many offensive categories in the Mid-American Conference, there was no doubt some of Ball State's players would be rewarded for outstanding seasons.
Ball State received three First Team All-MAC selections in sophomore left fielder Jennifer Gilbert, senior shortstop Alison Mercado and senior catcher Amanda Montalto.
Gilbert also earned 2012 MAC Player of the Year award for a season in which she was near the top of many offensive leader boards nationally. Gilbert finished the season hitting .348 with a MAC leading 18 home runs.
Montalto became the only player in Ball State's history to finish with three First Team All-MAC selections and to be first or second team in all four seasons. She finished the season hitting .403 with 15 home runs and a league high .513 on-base percentage.
The Cardinals also had three Second Team All-MAC selections. Junior center fielder Amanda Carpenter and sophomore third baseman Audrey Bickel represented Ball State. Freshman Hanne Stuedeman was selected for the MAC All-Freshman team and the second team.
Ball State totaled six players selected to All-MAC honors which led the league.
Ball State turns now to the MAC tournament which begins Wednesday. The Cardinals are the No. 1 seed with a double-bye and will not have to play until Thursday at 5 p.m.
