After two days of play in the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Ball State men's golf team has reached a middle ground.
The Cardinals shot a combined four-over par score of 292 in the third round of play on Saturday, moving from sixth to fourth overall with a 35-over 899.
Kent State maintained an enormous lead of 40 strokes with a third round score of 291 to create a total of nine-under 855. Its result after three rounds is far ahead of second place Eastern Michigan, which stands with a 31-over 895.
Ohio is three strokes ahead of Ball State with a 32-over 896.
Junior Joe Gasser has taken on the role as Ball State's No. 1 golfer in the conference tournament, posting his lowest round of 72 in round three to stand at a five-over 221 and in a tie for 10th.
Junior Brodie Williams, who has played some of the best golf of his career late in the season, shot a seven-over 223 to put himself in a tie for 13th.
Junior Tony Lazzara is tied for 24th after posting a 12-over 228, while sophomore Tyler Merkel ix tied for 28th after shooting a 14-over 230.
Senior TJ Carpenter isnt far off, putting together a 17-over 233 to push into a tie for 33rd.
The final round of 18 holes in the MAC Championships starts Sunday at 8 a.m.
