After competing in the 2012 Indianapolis Grand Prix at the Indiana University Natatorium this past weekend, two members of the Ball State women's swimming and diving team have qualified for the US Olympic Trials this summer.
Sophomores Bridgette Ruehl and Haley Richter both qualified for the Olympic Trials after the three-day meet and sophomore Mallory Miles came less than a second away from being the third swimmer from Ball State to qualify. The meet is the fifth stop on USA Swimming's Grand Prix.
Richter was first to qualify with a time of 1:01.58 in the 100 long course fly prelims Thursday.
Saturday, Ruehl earned her way to the Olympic Trials in the 100 long course breast prelims with a time of 1:12.19.
The same day, Miles recorded a 1:04.39 time in the prelims and 1:05.91 in the finals of the 100 long course back prelims. The time needed to qualify for the Olympic Trials is 1:03.99.
The Olympic Trials will be held from June 25 to July 2 in Omaha, Neb. In the Olympic Trials format, the top six swimmers in the 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle and top two swimmers from all other events have made the US Olympic Team.
For each team, a maximum of 26 men and 26 women are selected to the Olympic Teams.
