SOFTBALL: Ball State coninutes to rack up home runs, beating Buffalo

The long drive to Buffalo wasn't able to limit the Ball State power in their quest to break the Mid-American Conference record for most home runs in a single season by team.

Ball State beat Buffalo 9-5 in the first game of a two game series and tied the MAC record in the process with 59.

Sophomore left fielder Jennifer Gilbert hit her 16th home run of the season which broke her own Ball State individual single season record of 15 set last season. Sophomore pinch hitter Lauren Schroeder hit her first career home run that tied the record.

Senior pitcher Kim Mazzapica earned her 21st victory of the season after throwing a complete game allowing nine hits and five earned runs while striking out five.

Ball State hitters struck out seven times in the game but were able to capitalize with runners on base and a defensive miscue before Gilbert's home run.

Ball State finishes out their last road trip with Buffalo at 1 p.m. Sunday.
