There are only two more Tuesdays until finals week and the high anxiety from classes can make skin suffer. I've experienced acne since age 13, and during those six years, I've tried almost every product I could get my hands on to prevent pimples from popping up.
Through those years of trial and error, I've learned even the most popular products can damage the skin and make acne worse and natural remedies can often solve the problem faster while using less of the odd ingredients found on the bottle.
Here are two natural acne remedies.
Homemade Apple Cider and Aspirin Toner
Source: www.thedailygreen.com
Toner is known to brighten the skin, help combat blemishes and is available in most drugstores. But toners can get expensive and may contain foreign ingredients which can actually harm the skin. This natural toner contains apple cider vinegar, which promotes blood circulation in the small capillaries that irrigate the skin, according to www.care2.com. It also regulates the pH of the skin. Aspirin, the toner's second main ingredient, reduces the redness of pimples while exfoliating the skin to remove dead cells.
What you need:
-+ Ounce organic apple cider vinegar
3 Ounces mineral water (I used bottled water)
5 Plain aspirin tablets, uncoated
Directions:
1. Mix -+ oz. organic apple cider vinegar with four oz. of mineral water.
2. Use a spoon to crush aspirin tablets.
-á
3. Add crushed aspirin to water and vinegar.
-á
4. Apply a little bit of toner to need places.
What I thought:
The only complaint I have for this recipe is crushing the aspirin, which started to get messy and irritating after the third pill. Other than that, the toner felt great. Even though toner is generally completely liquid with no exfoliating qualities, it was nice to have the aspirin in the mixture since it eliminates the need to exfoliate prior. The apple cider vinegar was an interesting scent, but it left my skin feeling amazingly clean after rinsing. I used this recipe over Easter weekend, and by yesterday morning, my skin seemed more even and clear. If you have delicate or sensitive skin, I suggest using this toner sparingly.
Cinnamon Acne Spot Treatment

Spot treatments are great for those who need a blemish to quickly disappear. I like to dab a little spot treatment gel on sore pimples before applying makeup. That way, the zit can diminish during the day, and I can still wear foundation. However, I found myself running out of my drugstore spot treatment last week and wanted to save some cash, so I decided to try this cinnamon remedy and was surprised by how effective it was.
What you need:
2 tablespoons organic honey
Cinnamon powder
Directions:
Stir together the honey and cinnamon; use enough to form a paste. Dab on needed area rinse off with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.
What I thought:
I never thought to use cinnamon as a skin care remedy, nor did I know it was so good for the skin. According to organicfacts.net, cinnamon can be used to help dry acne, which proved to be accurate in my experience. After rinsing off the treatment, my pimple was less than half its original size and contained barely any redness. Being the curious student that I am, I decided to taste a small portion of the mixture. Yes, it's delicious, but try and use it for acne purposes only. Too much honey tends to cause stomach aches.
