WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals open MAC play with loss

Rang gets lone singles win for Ball State against Buffalo

The Ball State women's tennis team opened its conference play Friday afternoon with a 6-1 loss at Buffalo.

The Bulls secured the doubles point by sweeping the Cardinals. The doubles team No. 1 of freshman Courtney Wild and sophomore Kristel Sanders lost in a close match, 8-6. No. 2 doubles, senior Sarah Hebble and freshman Ashlyn Rang,

lost to Buffalo's Miranda Podlas and Tanvi Shah, 8-4.

In singles, the only Ball State player to win was No. 4 Rang, who beat Kira Golenko, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-7. It was Rang's second win in nine games.

No. 1 singles player, Courtney Wild, fell to the Bulls 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Kylee Johnson, who moved up to the No. 3 spot, lost 6-3, 6-1.

After Friday's loss, the weekend won't get any easier for the Cardinals as they play MAC-leading Akron on Saturday at 1 p.m.
