From the go-go dancer cage to the mechanical bull rides, Walnut Street looked a lot like Bourbon Street on Saturday night. In its 11th year, the annual Muncie Gras event proved to be not only the biggest party of the year, but the biggest Muncie Gras yet. Crowds stood shoulder to shoulder, dressed in Mardi Gras masks, feather boas and face paint.
In addition to the mechanical bull and go-go cage, the night included attractions such as human bowling, a drag show, two outdoor live music stages, food and alcohol vendors - not to mention plenty of Mardi Gras beads to throw around.
Eric Smith, a senior psychology major, said all of the women flashing their breasts was the craziest part of his first time attending Muncie Gras.
Smith said although he enjoyed the night, he wishes drinks were cheaper.
"[I] paid $20 for me to come in here," he said. "I'd like to spend $2-3 on a [large] beer - not a can."
Cheryl Crowder, Muncie Downtown Development Partnership event coordinator, said ideal weather conditions contributed to the success of the night.
"Mother Nature smiled on us and our sunshine dance worked," Crowder said. "Seeing the streets full of people, locals and students together enjoying each other and downtown was awesome."
