The Ball State women's tennis team (3-0) was recently predicted to finish eighth in in Mid-American Conference preseason poll, chosen by the individual coaches.
Akron, the defending MAC Champion, was ranked first in the poll.
"All the results were pretty much the same as the standings last year," coach Christine Bader said. "I hope we scare some people and I hope we surprise some people with our results and how we've improved."
Freshman Courtney Wild said she is "pretty pumped" about the start of the season.
It's becoming clear that they have improved, as the Cardinals are poised to secure a fourth straight victory Friday evening against Detroit Mercy. This will be the first time that Bader will face Detroit Mercy in her Ball State coaching career.
The Titans are 0-3 and have won just one point so far in 2011.
