MEN'S BASKETBALL: Offensive issues persist in third straight loss

Buffalo beats Ball State on the boards to take a 73-57 win

Last season, Ball State posted a 1-5 record against the Mid-American Conference East Division. Those numbers haven't gotten any better this year.

Ball State dropped its third game in a row, losing to Buffalo on the road 73-57. Buffalo has now won five straight games with its victory.

Going into halftime, Ball State trailed 29-24. However, the Cardinals were outscored 44 to 33 in the second half and weren't able to match Buffalo's shooting.

Ball State (12-8, 4-4 MAC) finished the night shooting a 36.8 percent (21-57) from the floor and 20 percent (4-20) behind the arc.

On the other hand, Buffalo (13-6, 6-2 MAC) shot 54 percent (27-50) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-19) from three-point land.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by senior forward Jarrod Jones who scored 21 points and eight rebounds. Jones was the only one for Ball State to hit double figures.

Jones has now scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season for the Cardinals.

Buffalo was led by forward Mitchell Watt with 20 points and 7 boards. Guard Zach Filzen posted 14 points while forward Javon McCrea added 10.

The Cardinals were out-rebounded 36 to 24. Coming into the night, Buffalo was first in the MAC and fourth in the nation averaging 41.4 rebounds per game.

Over the last two years, Ball State is now 13-2 versus the MAC West and 1-8 versus the MAC East.

Last night's loss ended a stretch where the Cardinals played four out of five games on the road. Central Michigan and Kent State are the only other two teams that will go through such a stretch.

Ball State hosts its first MAC East opponent this Saturday as Miami comes to Worthen Arena. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
