FOOTBALL: Tabacca hired as Ball State's offensive line coach

Former Ball State offensive lineman graduated in 2004

A former Ball State football letter-winner has been named offensive line coach.

Nick Tabacca, a 2004 graduate, played for the Ball State from 2001-04 and will replace former offensive line coach John Strollo who left to join the staff at Penn State.

"We are excited to welcome Nick back home to Ball State," coach Pete Lembo said in a news release on Monday. "It is great to have another alum and former captain on our staff. Our coaches have spent a considerable amount of time with Nick since we arrived last year. He is a thorough, organized and passionate line coach with big upside. Nick will be an excellent fit."

Tabacca started in 33 games during his career at Ball State, 24 of those games were at center. He was part of an offensive line that blocked for a then school record 2,730 passing yards in the 2003 season.

In 2002 and 2003 he was an Academic All-Mid-American Conference honoree and earned his degree prior to his senior season.

After graduation, he served as an assistant graduate in 2005 and 2006. From there, he was an assistant coach at Defiance College from 2007-09. From 2010-11 he served as an assistant coach for Butler, where his duties included offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator.
