Excellence in Leadership will be sponsoring a donation drive to raise money for Muncie Mission beginning this month.
Last semester, the program was challenged to put together a 40-hour service project that would bring awareness to a specific organization in the community.
Muncie Mission is an organization that began in 1930 to help homeless men. It is now a program that caters to homeless men, women and children by providing them with food, clothing and appliances.
"This is the largest group I have had," said the group's Graduate Advisor Alexandria White. "When you work with more people there's usually more room for conflict, but this group has surprised me and works very well and they all have a passion for Muncie Mission and a drive for the project."
"[Students involved] are very energized about this program," said White.
The group's goal is to get several on-campus organizations involved in the drive as well as participants around the Muncie community.
"This project has challenged us to step out of our comfort zones and apply what we've learned in EIL," said member Angela Parks who is one of the key eight members of this initiative.
EIL is a 2-year emerging leaders program. All students must complete Phase 1 in order to move onto Phase 2 of the program, which is where students are challenged to think critically for themselves.
"The second part is all about leadership skills and putting them into practice," said White.
The goal of Phase 2 of the program was to identify a problem at Ball State or in the Muncie community such as hunger or helping individuals in need.
"They went above and beyond for Muncie mission and are very adamant about bringing awareness to a group of people in the Muncie community and in east central Indiana in need," said White.
