The Wright State Raiders came to town to visit Ball State, but the Cardinals gave them a welcome they won't soon forget, posting a 7-0 victory.
Ball State swept its opponent in doubles, despite a struggle by No. 2 players Sarah Hebble and Ashlyn Rang. Hebble and Rang's game was forced into a tiebreaker after a 7-7 tie. The tiebreaker match was a constant back-and-forth battle. Hebble and Rang pulled it out in the end, 8-7 (7-4).
Rang also won her singles match against Abby Lewis, 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomore Kristel Sanders beat Wright State's Alex Bastock in an exciting tiebreak, 7-6 (5), 2-6 (10-4).
"I thought everyone did really well. We played well, a lot better than yesterday. I think our team is really improving," Sanders said.
No. 1 Courtney Wild also beat Wright State 6-1, 6-4.
"Very impressed even though it was a long four-hour match," Ball State coach Christine Bader said. "I was glad everybody could get a victory. And again, I was just very impressed and pumped with our doubles."
The Cardinals continue play on Friday against Detroit Mercy at 6 p.m. at the Muncie YMCA.
