Ball State posted an impressive performance both individually and as a team at the Butler Invitational on Sunday, finishing first in an upset over a strong Xavier team.
After losing to Xavier in last year's Butler Invitational and earlier in the season at the IUPUI House of Champions, the Cardinals were able to reverse their fortunes and earn their second victory this season.
Ball State put up an impressive effort across the board with wins in eight events.
Junior Michael Weber led the team with the Cardinals' first win in the 100-yard backstroke and a win in the 50-yard freestyle while posting two season best times in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. Sophomore Jake Brehmer also had two wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Senior Chris Krupa won the 100-yard butterfly with a season best 50.16 time and sophomore Drew Tharp won the 200-yard butterfly with a season best 1:51.86 time.
Senior Gavin McNeeley and sophomore Joseph Morris finished off the winners for the Cardinals in the 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke respectively. Morris posted a season best time of 57.96 in his victory.
Freshman Andrew Lamb surpassed his season best time in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:50.16 in his second place finish.
The Cardinals won with a score of 730 over Xavier's 697 and Valparaiso's score of 229 points and have rebounded after a tough start to the season.
The Cardinals have two more meets remaining before the Mid-American Conference Championship and compete against the Miami RedHawks at home on Saturday.
