The Ball State women's tennis team concluded its first day of action at the MAC Invitational Friday, going a collective 5-7 on the day.
Freshman Courtney Wild opened the day with a great start, winning her match against Northern Illinois' Sara McLaughlin, 6-3, 6-2.
Wild's freshman teammate Ashlyn Rang fell in her match against Mandy Eccleston of Bowling Green, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore Kristel Sanders defeated Miloslava Shustova on her own surface in Kalamazoo, 6-1. 6-2.
Senior Dena Boulieris lost, 6-3, 6-1, to Eastern Michigan's Ankita Bhatia.
Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr of Eastern Michigan beat junior Paola Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-7, 10-8.
Senior Sarah Hebble defeated Bowling Green's Jade Johnson, 6-2, 6-1.
Fellow senior Kylee Johnson lost to Jessica Easdale of Bowling Green in two close sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Singles action went 3-4 on the day, while doubles fared a little better, going 2-3.
The combo of Rang and Boulieris lost to Northern Illinois' Nelle Youel and Haley Dekkinga, 8-5.
Hebble, and her partner, Junior Lauren Pickrel lost, 8-3, to Chrissy Coffman and Lexy Pitt from Toledo.
However, they later came back to defeat Western Michigan's Caroline Aleck and Shustova. 8-5.
The Johnson/Rodriguez duo beat the combo of Arantza De La Torre from NIU and Marcela Rivero from Eastern Michigan, 9-8.
Finally, Sanders and Wild lost to Toledo's Kelsey Anonsen and Alexandra Cristello, 8-5.
The Cardinals conclude play on Saturday.
