After 32 years as coach of the women's swimming and diving program, Laura Seibold-Caudill has announced she will retire after the 2011-12 athletic season.
Seibold-Caudill is a two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in 1989-90 and 2003-04 and had one of her best seasons at Ball State last year. In the 2010-11 season, she had 12 swimmers and divers set 12 school records.
"I have been blessed to spend my entire head coaching career at Ball State University," Seibold-Caudill said in a press release. "Ball State has been a wonderful place for me to coach, develop my career and raise my family. I have worked with a lot of tremendous people and made countless friends, but more than anything else I am going to cherish the close and memorable relationships I have developed with my student-athletes. I look forward to finishing my career on a high note and then remaining a member of the Ball State family and helping the program in years to come."
Last season her team was also named to the College Swimming Coaches Assocation of America Spring 2011 Scholar All-America Team for having the highest grade-point average in the country with a 3.600 for the spring semester. Ball State beat out schools such as Evansville, Tulane and Clemson for the top spot.
In her 32 seasons as coach, Seibold-Caudill has a combined record of 270-176-3 and an 87-112-1 record in the MAC dual meets. From 2004-09 she was the co-coach of the Ball State men's swimming and diving program.
She guided the program to third place finishes in the MAC championships four times in her career and had her student-athletes win MAC individual championships 34 times. She also coached two All-Americans, four MAC Divers of the Year and two MAC Swimmers of the Year. Two of her student-athletes were also NCAA National Championship qualifiers.
