WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Concussions end guard's career

Barnes given medical disqualification for symptoms of concussions

Junior guard Chloe Barnes will no longer compete for the Ball State women's basketball team because of a medical disqualification, according to the Ball State Athletics Compliance Department.

Division 1 requirements have given Barnes a medical disqualification for her symptoms from her concussions. The medical disqualification is based upon documentation provided by the Ball State physicians and medical personnel.

"I acknowledge the difficult process that has culminated in the reality of [Barnes] ending her collegiate athletic career," coach Kelly Packard said in a press release. "I am appreciative of [Barnes] efforts toward our program, and I am pleased she will remain at Ball State as she completes the academic requirements for her degree."

In her career at Ball State, Barnes saw limited playing time in two seasons. She made 11 appearances for the Cardinals and averaged 1.5 points per game.

Her highest point total came in the 2009-10 season in Ball State's 89-77 victory over North Dakota by scoring two 3-point baskets.
