After a two-and-a-half week absence from tournament play, the Ball State men's tennis team returned to action Thursday in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
The goals for Ball State were to play well against good competition and continue its momentum from the Ball State Invitational.
Instead, Ball State showed some rust on the court.
In singles competition, the Cardinals went 3-6 on the day. Junior Alexandre Brym defeated Texas Tech in three sets while sophomore Austin Smith and freshman Patrick Elliott defeated Xavier and Virginia, respectively.
On the doubles side, they went 4-2 overall. The twosome of senior Derek Carpenter and junior Zane Smith won their doubles match 8-2 over tournament host Tennessee. Junior Dalton Albertin and freshman Ray Leonard also won their respective match 8-2 over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Cardinals will return to action in the Regional Championships today at 8:30 a.m.
