Coming off of an up-and-down first day in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Friday, the Ball State men's tennis team began Saturday looking for more consistency.
At the end of the day, however, it was the same story for Ball State - solid play from in the singles matches and inconsistent play in the doubles matches.
During its singles session at 1 p.m., Ball State went 5-3 against Northwestern.
Junior Dalton Albertin started singles action for the Cardinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over the Wildcats Eric Spector.
Junior Alexandre Brym picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Wildcats Nickhil Jayashankar while sophomore Austin Smith picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 victory over the Wildcats Alberto Zanotti. Junior Alex Doherty and senior Derek Carpenter also won their respective matches against host Marquette.
In the final session of the day, Ball State wasn't as successful, finishing with a 2-2 mark in its doubles matches.
The pairing of seniors Zane Smith and Carpenter resulted in an 8-4 victory over Marquette's Jonathan Schwerin and sophomore Logon Collins. Brym and Austin Smith also won its doubles match up 9-7 over Marquette's Otavio Perim and Vukasin Teofanovic.
On the losing side, Albertin and freshman Ray Leonard lost 9-7 to Marquette's Dan Mamalat and Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley while freshman Patrick Elliott and Doherty lost 8-6 to Marquette's Drake Kakar and Cameron Tehrani.
Ball State will finish up play in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sunday morning when they face Wisconsin in singles action and Northwestern in doubles.
