FOOTBALL: Buffalo Bills keep Eddins, Switzer on team after cuts

Eddins sticks on active roster after impressing in preseason with two sacks

Two former Ball State football players were named to the Buffalo Bills football team this weekend.

Defensive end Robert Eddins and offensive tackle Michael Switzer, teammates for three seasons at Ball State, were both kept inside the Bills organization after its roster was cut to 53 players.

Eddins, named to the 53-man roster, was a All-Mid-American Conference Second Team pick in 2009 and 2010 where he started all 24 games. At Ball State, he had 167 tackles, 34 tackles for loss and 17 sacks in four seasons. He holds the Ball State record for second most sacks in a game with 4.5 against Central Michigan his senior season.

He did see a significant amount of playing time in the 2011 NFL Preseason for the Bills, recording a sack each against the Denver Broncos and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Switzer was added to the Bills' practice squad on Sunday after initially being cut on Saturday. Switzer started all 51 games he played for the Cardinals, including the 2007 and 2008 seasons when Ball State went to two bowl games and won the MAC West Division. He was named to the All-Third MAC team his senior season.

Former Ball State punter Brad Maynard did not make the Houston Texans 53-man roster when cuts were made Saturday.
