FOOTBALL: Ball State holds 21-13 lead at the start of the fourth quarter

The comfortable 14-point lead Ball State held at halftime dwindled to eight points in the third quarter, and the Cardinals take a 21-13 lead into the fourth quarter.

Buffalo blocked Scott Kovanda's punt six minutes into the half and recovered at Ball State's 34-yard line. The Bulls needed just three plays to score, a drive capped by running back Branden Oliver's 10-yard rush. Ball State returned the favor by blocking the extra point attempt, its second block in as many weeks.

The Cardinals offense that had operated so well in the second quarter was stymied by the Bulls. Ball State was twice forced to punt, and kicker Steven Schott missed his second field goal of the game, this time from 40 yards out.
