Landfill may be searched for missing Indiana student

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The company that runs a western Indiana landfill says it is cooperating with investigators who might search it for signs of an Indiana University student who's been missing for two months.

Republic Services spokeswoman Peg Mulloy tells The Indianapolis Star that the FBI wants to search its landfill south of Terre Haute. She says the company has been talking with the FBI for the past two to three weeks.

WTHR-TV reports that Bloomington police requested a search warrant for the landfill on June 16 as it looked for 20-year-old Lauren Spierer. The Greenburgh, N.Y., woman was last seen early June 3 walking alone to her Bloomington apartment after a night out with friends.

The station reports Bloomington police declined to comment on searching the landfill.
