Blackboard working after first day of classes

After a rough start at the beginning of the week, Ball State's Blackboard system is back on track.

Blackboard, an online course management program many professors use to communicate and share documents with students, shut down Monday morning — the first day of the Fall Semester.

Problems included long wait times for those trying to access the site, and sometimes no access at all. Ball State's new Blackboard 24/7 technical support line shut down at 4:15 p.m. Monday after being flooded with calls.

Ball State expects Blackboard Student Services to send a log of all of the calls made to Blackboard along with how long each person calling had to wait for the past 48 hours.

Blackboard Student Services is expected to create an outline of how they will resolve the problems with long wait times.

According to Ball State's Technology HelpDesk, the service was back online and working at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, but the new technical support line was scheduled to remain inactive until 8 a.m. today.After two days of being off line, Blackboard is running, and the Ball State Help Desk is working to keep it that way.

The problems started Monday on the first day of classes. Students and faculty experienced long wait times and some could not access the website. Blackboard is an online course management program that many professors at universities use to communicate with students in their classes.

Ball State's new Blackboard 24/7 technical support line was set up in order to help those who experienced problems. Because there were so many problems, the wait time for those calls was long, and calls went unanswered.

If Ball State approves, the support line will continue running Aug. 24 at 8 a.m. According to Ball State's Blackboard help desk, the service was back online and working at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, but the new technical support line will remain down until Ball State approves of changes.
