Going into his 56th season as the Voice of the Cardinals, broadcaster Morry Mannies has announced he will retire after the 2011-12 football and men's basketball seasons.
Mannies has been the play-by-play commentator for WLBC/WXFN Radio in Muncie since 1956 and has broadcast over 5,500 Ball State and high school and football games in 55 years. He has also spent over 30,000 hours at the microphone.
Mannies is a three-time receipient of the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year Award and Mid-American Conference Sportscaster of the Year honor.
His broadcasting career began when he was a freshman at Ball State. In 1960, he received a bachelor's degree from the school and a master's in 1964.
The Ball State athletics department plans to recognize Mannies at the conclusion of the men's basketball season at Worthen Arena.
