Two Ball State running backs removed the title "walk-on" from their names after they were awarded scholarships.
Coach Pete Lembo announced Tuesday that junior running back Dwayne Donigan and sophomore Barrington Scott were given scholarships for the upcoming season.
"It needs to be crystal clear that these upgrades are based on merit and have been in the works since the conclusion of spring practice," Lembo said in a press release. "Dwayne and Barrington have been workhorses for the football program both on and off the field."
Lembo went on to say that several factors were included in the decision to put Donigan and Scott on scholarship.
"They have excelled on the field, in the weight room and in the classroom," he said. "They have earned the respect of their teammates and the coaching staff and are well-deserved of the privilege of being on scholarship."
Donigan saw limited action in 2010 by making only one appearance, a 45-0 loss to Iowa on Sept. 25. He played in three games in 2009 as a freshman.
Scott did not get any playing time last season for Ball State and will be a sophomore in terms of eligibility in the 2011 season.
