SOFTBALL: Ball State senior named to All-American team

Cardinals' Barkley named to Academic All-American Third Team

Ball State senior softball player Alicia Barkley was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team last week, according to the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Barkley's selection to the team is the 10th Academic All-America honor in the program's history, and the second year in a row a player has received the honor.

As a first-year recipient, Barkley owned a 3.63 GPA as an exercise science major.

The honor only adds to an already astounding career. In her four years. Barkley won the 2009 MAC Player of the Year, named to MAC All-Tournament Team in 2010 and has earned First or Second Team All-MAC honors twice.

In her softball career, Barkley started every game at shortstop.

During the season, Barkley hit .351 with 50 runs, 17 RBIs, two triples, and a team-high 20 stolen bases.

Barkley joined Ohio's Mel Bonner as the only players from the MAC to receive the honor.
