WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State shakes losing streak with 5-2 win

Four Cardinals win in straight sets

Ball State needed a successful match to boost its confidence. It finally arrived on Saturday. 

Ball State defeated Northern Illinois 5-2 on the road for its first win in the last six matches. 

After losing the doubles point 2-1, the Cardinals rebounded with strong play by the top four singles players.

No. 1 Georgina Thompson had a successful day, defeating Kelly Phillips in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. No. 2 Kristel Sanders, No. 3 Sarah Hebble and No. 6 Lauren Pickrel also won their matches in straight sets. 

No. 4 Dena Bouileris fought for a hard-earned win over Sara McLaughlin, taking the match in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 10-6. 

No. 5 Paola Rodriguez was the only Cardinals to fall in the match, losing to Haley Dekkinga 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

Ball State will now prepare for a match on Friday at Cincinnati against the Bearcats. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
