On a day full of high-powered offense and clutch pitching, the Ball State softball team left Orlando, Fla., with two more wins.
Ball State moved its record to 11-5 on the season with a 6-2 victory over Monmouth in the afternoon and a 7-5 shootout win over Central Florida in the evening.
Junior right-handed pitcher Audrey Workman started for the Cardinals against the Hawks, giving up two runs and striking out seven batters in 5 1/3 innings. Sophomore pitcher Audra Sanders struggled to find her stride against the Knights, giving up nine hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Junior right-handed pitcher Kim Mazzapica came in for the struggling Sanders and recorded her first save of the season, giving up two hits and no runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Freshman designated hitter Jennifer Gilbert led the way for Ball State's offense once again, going 4-for-8 with a home run and four RBIs. Freshman third baseman Audrey Bickel added two hits and two RBIs against Central Florida.
The Cardinals return to action Friday, when they travel to Clearwater, Fla., to play in the Under Armour Showcase. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m. against Long Island.
