The idea of going home sounds dreadful to most student-athletes.
But for the Ball State softball team, playing at home couldn't sound any sweeter.
Starting the season with 26 straight road games, Ball State returns home for the first time this season with a doubleheader against Dayton.
Senior shortstop Alicia Barkley said she's excited to have a home crowd.
"I'm excited to play at home for the first time this season," Barkley said. "I am looking forward to practicing on our field for the first time in the spring. I think it will be nice to actually play at home and have our home crowd behind us."
Even with the home crowd, junior right-handed pitcher Kim Mazzapica said the pitching staff still has work to do.
"We have been fine tuning our pitches in practice," Mazzapica said. "We have been focusing on having good bull pens this week and pitching in certain counts."
One player that can make the pitching staff's job easier is junior catcher Amanda Montalto. On Tuesday, she was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week after her performance in the Radford Tournament last weekend.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Audra Sanders was also honored by the MAC Tuesday after being named MAC West Pitcher of the Week.
As for today, freshman designated hitter Jennifer Gilbert said she expects Dayton to play its best.
"I think that we expect them to bring their best just like any other team would, but we are definitely ready for anything," Gilbert said. "They are a good team, and we're going to give it our all and come out on top."
