With the democratic process complete, the Residence Hall Association representatives welcomed their president-elect, Juliana Abercrombie, back to the floor of the General Assembly.
The three presidential candidates defended their bids and credentials to the 29 representatives yesterday in the Park Hall Multipurpose Room. Once the vote was tallied, president-elect Abercrombie took her seat with cheers coming from the representatives, advisers and guests.
Her bid highlighted four areas of RHA that she wants to focus on during her term, including internal fortification, representative development, community connection and public relations.
Seated behind name placards adorned with Ball State residence hall names, the representatives intently listened to each candidate present his or her case for election to the presidency of the organization. Armed with copies of the candidates' bids, the representatives took turns asking deeper questions to better understand capabilities and leadership styles.
President-elect Abercrombie said she chose Ball State for the people, but RHA is the reason she stayed.
"RHA has opened a lot of doors for me and has given me opportunities I'll always cherish," she said. "I want you to know, however, that RHA is the reason I stayed at Ball State – RHA was the reason I wasn't homesick."
Abercrombie has been involved in RHA for three years in a variety of capacities. She also recently served as the executive secretary of Student Connection in the Student Government Association, building relationships she hopes to bring to RHA as president.
After winning the election, Abercrombie thanked Janelle Lemish and Corey VanBuskirk, who also ran for the RHA presidency. The RHA executive board that will serve the residence hall community for the next year alongside Abercrombie will be elected on April 7.
