Muncie may delay razing 10 historic buildings

Efforts to prevent the city of Muncie from razing 27 buildings in historic districts are meeting mixed results.

Preservationist Mike Mavis says demolishing some of the homes would leave "a big hole" in neighborhoods, but city officials say no one wants to invest in the properties.

Historic preservation officer Bill Morgan says he is confident the city can find a developer who will use federal money to renovate an apartment building on the list but is uncertain about the houses' fate.

Urban planning professor Bruce Frankel says the decision to raze the buildings reflects a neglect of city neighborhoods.
