The Ball State men's swimming and diving team sits in sixth place after the first day of events in the 2010-2011 Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Cardinals were well-represented in the finals of each event, and three individual swimmers turned in season-best performances.
The 200 freestyle relay was the first event of the evening and the team of sophomore Michael Weber, senior Josh Young, junior Tony DeBrota, and junior Casey Schroeder took seventh with a time of 1:24.84. The performance was the Cardinals' fastest of the season.
Senior Mark Golden finished 14th in the 500 freestyle with a season-best swim of 4:37.98, while junior Chris Krupa turned in a season-best 1:52.79 to finish 10th in the 200 individual medley.
In the 50 freestyle, Schroeder posted the highest individual finish for a Cardinal as he took ninth with a time of 20.77. It was a season-best effort for the junior.
The one-meter diving event rounded out the day and senior Jeremy Whited placed 14th with a score of 213.70.
The University at Buffalo leads after five events with a 216 points. Southern Illinois follows with 154 points, while Eastern Michigan (146), Miami of Ohio (136), Missouri State (104), Ball State, and Evansville (32) round out the standings.
Friday's events will include the 400 individual medley, 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and the 100 backstroke.
