INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Republican leader of the Indiana House says he has no intentions of waiving the fines topping $3,000 against most of the Democrats who boycotted the Legislature for five weeks.
Thursday's House session was delayed by more than three hours as GOP Speaker Brian Bosma and Democratic leader Pat Bauer held a private meeting and Bauer then met with Democratic legislators.
Democrats returned to the House floor for an afternoon session and Bauer said another walkout wasn't planned.
The party leaders discussed the fines, but Bosma said he doubted Republican legislators would change the fines, but that he was willing to work with Democrats on payment schedules.
Bauer says Democrats also object to the lack of public testimony in committees on several bills since they returned on Monday from Illinois.
