After ending 2010 with a win, Ball State started 2011 poorly, losing 86-51 to Duquesne University on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Ball State drops to 5-8 on the season.
The Cardinals never held a lead and found themselves down 23-9 early in the game against the Dukes.
Ball State could not get within 11 points in the first half and went into halftime down 43-27.
Duquesne also dominated the second half even while only shooting 35 percent from the field. The Dukes shot 43 percent from the field for the game and 42 percent from 3-point range.
The Cardinals shot 34 percent for the game while committing a season-high 35 turnovers.
Senior forward Emily Maggert scored 10 points while grabbing six rebounds. Freshman guard Jordan Huber scored nine points from three 3-point shots.
The loss closes out Ball State's non-conference schedule for the season. The Cardinals began Mid-American Conference play Wednesday at the University of Toledo.
