In a matchup between the 15th-ranked Ball State men's volleyball team and collection of men's volleyball alumni, youth conquered experience.
The current Ball State unit dispatched its elder counterparts 25-20, 17-25, 25,-18, 25-14, 25-20 in a five set match at Worthen Arena Saturday night.
Coach Joel Walton made it a point to spread the wealth in the matchup, putting 15 different players into the game. Redshirt freshman Derek Menendez, who played in only two sets, finished with five kills and a team-high 9.5 points.
Evan Berg, who last played for Ball State in 2006, led the alumni team with eight kills and nine points. 2007 alumnus Nick Meyer finished behind him with six kills.
Ball State will continue the start of its season on Thursday as they compete against Hawaii in the 17th annual Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
