BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana University is celebrating an award for a cultural immersion program that sends student teachers from IU to countries all over the world.
IU's School of Education won a 2011 Innovation Award from the University Design Consortium.
The school's Cultural Immersion Projects send teachers to 15 countries, the Navajo Nation and Chicago Public Schools. The idea is to give student teachers professional experience while they live in and learn about other cultures.
IU says the program has already received several awards, but says this is the first celebrating the entire scope of the project.
