Tyrae Robinson's winning layup with 2.7 seconds left in overtime closed out an opportunistic game for the Ball State men's basketball team.
With three seconds left in regulation and Ball State down 70-69 to DePaul, Jarrod Jones went to the foul line to shoot two free throws. Jones made his first free throw, but missed the second, sending the game into overtime.
The score went back and forth between the two teams in the extra period before Jones redeemed himself. He hit a jumper with 50 seconds in overtime to put Ball State up 77-75.
DePaul answered with two free throws to set up Robinson's game-winning drive to the basket.
Ball State's 79-77 victory improves its record to 4-3 on the season. DePaul drops to 3-6 with its second consecutive loss.
Coach Billy Taylor could not be reached for comment.
Jones finished as the Cardinals top scorer with 17 points. Freshman Jesse Berry added 15 points.
After losing to St. Johns in overtime this season, Ball State is 1-1 in overtime games. Tonight was the first time since 1989 the Cardinals defeated a Big East team.
