WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State senior attempting to join LPGA

With the fall portion of the 2010 Ball State women's golf season completed, a special opportunity has come for one senior.

Brittany Kelly, who leads the Cardinals this season with a 75.31 stroke average, is participating in a 72-hole tournament that can make her eligible for membership with the LPGA.

The three-day tournament will take place at Lake Region Yacht and Country Club in Winter Haven, Fla., Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales, Fla. and Ridgewood Lakes Golf and Country Club in Davenport, Fla.

Participants will be automatically disqualified from the event should they score an 87 or higher during any of the three rounds.

At the conclusion of the tournament, only the top 275 finishers will be eligible to apply for membership with the LPGA in the 2011 season.

Kelly hopes to continue to be among the 275 and add that experience to her résumé this year. She has posted three top-10 finishes this fall, including a second-place finish at the Iowa Hawkeye Intercollegiate. She was also named a Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week after her performance at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational, where she tied for fourth.

The tournament begins Tuesday, with final round to be played Friday.
