It took two attempts for Ball State to get their first road win of the season, but it came in a 66-52 win at Valparaiso on Wednesday.
The Crusaders looked to take control of the game early by opening the game on a 7-0 run up to the first media timeout.
Ball State responded with a 12-4 that was capped by a field goal from senior Ty'Ronda Benning to give her team a 12-11 lead. Valparaiso came back to take a 26-20 lead before Ball State retook the lead at 30-28 at halftime.
The Cardinals had one of their best first half performances of the season by only committing five turnovers but only shot 24 percent from the field.
In the second half, Ball State took control of the game, starting on a 15-6 run and never looked back.
The Cardinals led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
Senior Emily Maggert recorded another double-double for Ball State, leading the team with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Benning added 13 points. Senior Ebony Jackson scored eight points and freshman Brandy Woody scored seven points.
Valparaiso's Betsy Adams scored 18 points to lead the Crusaders. No other player for Valparaiso scored more than seven points.
