WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden plan to visit Kokomo, Ind., next Tuesday.
The White House says the city in recent years has been devastated by plant closings and layoffs but that administration efforts — particularly the economic stimulus and its restructuring of the auto industry — are helping to turn it around.
A new plant that makes components for hybrid cars recently opened with money from the stimulus bill. Chrysler also has invested $300 million to retool and modernize a transmission plant in the city.
Obama last visited Kokomo during the 2008 presidential campaign. The White House announced his latest visit on Thursday.
