FOOTBALL: Ball State takes seven-point lead in second quarter

AMHERST, N.Y. – A 10-point second quarter gave Ball State a 10-3 lead at Buffalo at halftime Friday night.

The Cardinals trailed 3-0 after the first quarter, but quarterback Keith Wenning found Otis Brown over the middle for a 32-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. Ian McGarvey added a 38-yard field goal in the final two minutes of the half to give Ball State a touchdown lead.

Buffalo has been forced to play without starting quarterback Alex Zordich, who was hurt on a tackle by defensive end Robert Eddins. Zordich was replaced by Jerry Davis, who is 0-of-3 and fumbled twice.

Wenning is 15-of-18 for 146 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Wide receiver Briggs Orsbon is the Cardinals' leading receiver with four catches for 48 yards.
