FOOTBALL: Ball State offense wakes up, but still trails Northern Illinois

Though Ball State's offense woke up coming out of halftime, it still trails Northern Illinois 45-21.

The Cardinals scored on their first drive of the second half when Eric Williams rushed for his second touchdown of the day. The touchdown capped a nine-play, 82-yard drive directed by backup quarterback Kelly Page. He replaced Keith Wenning in the second quarter after the starter was shaken up.

Page also threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jack Tomlinson, tying Ball State's longest play from scrimmage this season. Running back David Brown had an 80-yard touchdown run at Central Michigan.

Ball State tried an onside kick after the Tomlinson touchdown, but Northern Illinois recovered. Running back Chad Spann turned the good field position into his third rushing touchdown of the game. The Huskies also kicked a 40-yard field goal just before the end of the quarter.
