It's the battle to the end tonight as four teams compete for the championship title and prizes in the annual flag football game.
Black Student Association, Kappa Delta/FIJI, Brayton/Clevenger and Pi Beta Phi/Phi Sigma Kappa will square off starting at 7:30 p.m. in Scheumann Stadium.
In the first round, two games will be played simultaneously. The winners of each game will then play for the championship.
Since the tailgating competition was canceled, $750 in prizes has been transferred over to the flag football championship.
First place will win a new grill, complete with utensils and grilling aprons. The runner-up will win a cooler full of hot dogs, buns, soda and other snacks to complete the tailgating experience for Sunday's Homecoming football game.
Chanel Richards, Homecoming general chairwoman, said participants won't be the only ones going home with prizes.
"Everyone has a chance to win stuff, including the audience," she said. "We'll also be throwing out prizes to the audience at the game."
Charlie Cardinal will pick out contestants to take a shot at kicking a field goal. All of those who make the field goal will split a $250 scholarship.
Men can enter a drawing to win free haircuts from Sports Clips, and everyone attending will be able to enter a drawing for a $250 scholarship courtesy of the Alumni Association.
Kait Buck, special events chairwoman, said a lot of student organizations are getting involved to make flag football the best it can be.
Efforts have been made to improve the tournament since its premiere last year. Only two teams competed at the 2009 championships. This year, four teams will get the opportunity to play in Scheumann Stadium. Another new addition is play-by-play announcing.
Student organizations will earn Ashley points for attending and playing. All student organizations who participated in the flag football tournament will earn points, with an additional bundle points going to the winner. Student organizations going will also receive points based on the percentage of their group attending the championship game.
Buck said she is hoping the attendance reflects the participation this year, because flag football was the second-fastest event to be filled, behind only Air Jam.
