The National Weather Service issued an enhanced fire-danger alert for East Central Indiana.
The alert is expected to be in effect Monday afternoon through the evening with no more alerts expected after that.
A fire-weather watch means critical fire-weather conditions might be forecast. Central Indiana is expecting southwest winds of up to 15 mph with gusts of up to 20 mph possible and humidity near 25 percent in the afternoon.
So far in Indiana, 69 counties currently have active burn bans. Delaware County commissioners placed a burn ban Sept. 24, which lasted one week. A second ban was placed for Oct. 1 to Oct. 15, but the continuing dry conditions forced commissioners to maintain the ban, effective until further notice.
Residents in counties affected by the bans are urged to be prepared to evacuate if necessary, according to the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office, a division of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
The NWS advises residents to listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
