MEN'S GOLF: Ball State in third place at Wolf Run Intercollegiate

Cardinals eight strokes off the lead

The Ball State men's golf team is in third place of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Carmel, after playing the first two rounds of the tournament Saturday.

Ball State ended the day with a score of 586. Illinois leads the tournament by 7 strokes with a 578, followed by second place Central Florida with a 585.

Senior Eric Steger led the Cardinals on the day after shooting a 74 in the first round and a 69 in the second for a score of 143. His second-round score tied for the lowest score of the competition thus far.

Sophomore Joe Gasser and freshman Tyler Merkel also finished with solid scores for Ball State. Gasser shot a 79-72 to finish with 148. Merkel, playing in his first collegiate event, tallied a 79-72 for a 151 on the day.

Ball State will tee off Sunday morning in the final round of the tournament.
