WEST LAYFAYETTE – Many Ball State fans saw the quarterback they wanted to start Saturday's game at Purdue take the field on the opening drive.
But Keith Wenning hasn't had the same level of success he did last week against Liberty. The Cardinals trail the Boilermakers 14-0 after the first quarter.
Purdue scored on its opening drive on a 36-yard pass from Robert Marve to O.J. Ross. It was the longest pass play of the season for the Boilermakers.
Marve added another touchdown pass on Purdue's second drive of the game.
Ball State's inability to get off the field on third down has continued. Purdue converted two third downs on its first drive.
Wenning is 5-of-9 for 37 yards. Eric Williams leads the Cardinals with 21 yards rushing.
Marve is 9-of-11 for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
