SOFTBALL: Ball State falls to IPFW

Cardinals have lost two of last three games

A four-run first inning from IPFW proved to be too much for Ball State University and its offense as they fell 5-4 Tuesday afternoon.

The Mastodons (20-10) took advantage in the first inning off struggles on the mound by the Cardinals' starting pitcher Audra Sanders (4-5).

IPFW clean-up hitter Cassie Wolfe brought in two runs on a double, followed up with Stacey Swinford with a two-run homer putting the game at 4-0.

The starting pitcher Courtney Cronin for IPFW threw six innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Relief pitcher Amanda Olender entered the game in the seventh to record the save.

Ball State (21-8) starter Audra Sanders threw all seven innings giving up five hits, five earned runs, and striking out eight.

The Cardinal's senior third baseman Jessie Ware went 3-for-3 on the day scoring two runs.

Ball State returns to Mid-American Conference play as they face Central Michigan in double header on Friday April 9th.
