SOFTBALL: Ball State continues homestand against IPFW

Cardinals hope to get back on track after weekend split

With a four-game winning streak snapped over the weekend by Miami University, Ball State University will attempt to get back on track against IPFW at home Tuesday.
After losing 5-0 to the reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament champions Saturday, the Cardinals (21-7) were able to steal a 4-3 win Sunday. Senior Jessie Ware hit a walk-off single that took a fortuitous bounce for Ball State.
IPFW (19-10) comes to Muncie riding a six-game winning streak. The Mastodons are led by catcher Kristina Karpun, who has a .405 batting average and 25 RBIs.
In IPFW's 2-1 victory at North Dakota State University on Saturday, Karpun hit her eighth home run of the season and 14th of her career. This tied the school's career record and set a new single-season record for the Mastodons.
In the same game, Courtney Cronin, the Mastodon's ace, set the single-season school record for victories with 11. The sophomore is 11-6 this year with a 2.16 ERA. She has seven shutouts this year.
The two teams did not play last year and split a doubleheader in 2008. Overall, Ball State is 7-3 against IPFW.
The Cardinals started the season with 26 road games but is now in the midst of a nine-game home stand.
